The Porsche Penske Motorsport team is setting the stage for an electrifying performance at the upcoming Grand Prix of Long Beach, following remarkable victories in the first two rounds of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Scheduled for April 12, 2025, the team is ready to chase its third consecutive win in this iconic event.

The #7 car, driven by Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy, and Laurens Vanthoor, has dominated the competition with first-place finishes at both the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Tandy’s triumph at Sebring also earned him the prestigious Triple Crown title, making history as the first driver to claim wins at the 24-hour races of Le Mans, Nürburgring, Spa, and Daytona. Meanwhile, the #6 car, piloted by Matt Campbell, Kévin Estre, and Mathieu Jaminet, demonstrated its strength with a third-place finish at Daytona and a runner-up position at Sebring.

With the race spanning just 100 minutes on Long Beach’s famed 1.968-mile street circuit, Porsche is determined to maintain its first and second positions in the drivers’ championship. Last year, the #7 car secured a third-place finish, with its sister car coming in fourth. This time around, the team is aiming even higher.

Adding to the excitement, AO Racing is bringing back fan-favorite Rexy, the spirited Porsche 911 GT3 R, to compete in the GTD class. Fresh off a victory at Sebring, Rexy will be driven by Porsche ace Laurens Vanthoor and emerging talent Jonny Edgar. For Vanthoor, returning to Long Beach is a thrill, as the event is a favorite of his on the IMSA calendar. Edgar, making his debut in a Porsche 911 GT3 R, is equally excited about the challenge and eager to contribute to a strong finish.

The festivities kick off early with Thunder Thursday on April 10, 2025, a free event featuring race car displays, live music, and even a rumored inflatable dinosaur cameo. Fans can catch the Grand Prix of Long Beach live on Peacock in the U.S. or on IMSA’s YouTube channel for international audiences.

With a rich history dating back to 1975, this prestigious event promises fast-paced action, iconic cars, and unforgettable moments. For Porsche and its drivers, it’s the perfect opportunity to continue their winning streak and thrill motorsport enthusiasts around the globe.
